27th Week of Pregnancy

Your 13 ¾ inches long baby weighs around 2 ¼ pounds by now. Now your baby can open and close her eyelids. Your baby has now begun the cycle of going to sleep and waking up. Your baby’s sleep timings will not match yours though. Your bay may feel like waking up and playing just when you decide to take some rest. Therefore sleeping might become little bit difficult.

By 27th week of pregnancy, most of you must have noticed the increase in your baby’s movements. Sometimes the movements might be because of your baby’s hiccups and sometimes you may feel like your baby has started her workout session with aerobatic exercises. The reason behind this is that your baby’s lungs are developing rapidly to get ready for the first breath your baby is going to take just after her birth. If you think your baby’s movements have become less frequent, then contact your health care provider immediately.

Going to childbirth education classes will be helpful for you as you will be able to share your experiences with other moms-to-be. If you are a first time mom-to-be then you can get lots of moral support listening to other ladies’ experiences. However, do not compare their experiences with yours as each and every pregnancy is different and unique. You may or may not experience same things others are experiencing.

Now is the time when you can think about buying car seat for your bay to take her home from hospital. Nowadays many hospitals make the new parents get infant car seat for their car before they can take their baby home. You can get good help from your childbirth classmates regarding this. Look for the pediatricians’ recommendations so that you can get the most comfortable car seat for your baby.

During pregnancy you require more calories. Therefore eating healthy food which consists of fresh fruits, vegetables and juices etc. will take care of your and your baby’s balanced diet properly. Drink lots of water to decrease heartburn and urinary tract infection. Shortness of breath, increased trips to restroom, difficulty in finding good sleeping position, cramps in lower abdomen and legs are some of the common things you may experience during 27th week of pregnancy.

If you notice any of the following things, then contact your health care provider immediately:

  • Sudden flow of watery vaginal discharge
  • Reddish vaginal discharge
  • Severe cramps 5 to 6 times in an hour
  • Excessive swelling on your hands and face
  • Pain while passing urine etc

These may be the signs of pre term labor. Visit your doctor right away so that he/she can take necessary action. Do not take any medicine without consent of your health care provider.

Share your worries and anxieties with your partner. Your partner might also be going through some worries about the parenthood. You can prove to be good support for each other. This will result certainly help in bonding well with each other and your baby.
